Nazarian College Awards $200K in Scholarships Honoring Student Excellence and Donor Support

In an evening focused on student achievement and donor support, the David Nazarian College of Business and Economics awarded nearly $200,000 in scholarships to just under 100 students at its annual scholarship dinner.

Held April 30 at the Odyssey Restaurant in Granada Hills, California, the event celebrated the student recipients’ academic success, community involvement and personal journeys—as well as the generosity of supporters who fund nearly 40 named scholarships across the college.

Chandra Subramaniam, dean of Nazarian College, noted the critical role scholarships play in student success during his remarks.

“Not only do scholarships acknowledge and honor our students’ achievements, they provide them with the opportunity to reduce the number of hours they are working so they can excel in their studies and graduate more quickly,” said Subramaniam.

He added that for many students, a donor’s belief in their potential is as meaningful as the financial support itself—offering both encouragement and opportunity on their academic journey.

“A donor’s belief in a student’s success can inspire them to push through challenges because they know someone outside their family is willing to support their goal of a college education,” said Subramaniam. “It’s often seen as validation of their goals and hard work. I want as many of our students as possible to receive this kind of meaningful support and validation.”

As part of the evening’s program, department chairs from the college’s academic departments introduced their respective scholarships and invited donors in attendance to help present the awards to student recipients.

The evening also featured remarks by Jon Georgio, CEO of Gothic Landscape, CSUN graduate, donor and chair of the Nazarian College Advisory Board. In addition, Nazarian College student Sakura Divecchio shared her personal journey and highlighted how meaningful the scholarship support has been in advancing her academic and personal goals.
