Nazarian College Launches MS in Cybersecurity and AI Governance
NORTHRIDGE, Calif. — The David Nazarian College of Business and Economics at California State University, Northridge, is launching one of California’s first graduate programs to combine cybersecurity and AI governance into a single degree. The program addresses the growing demand for professionals equipped to manage the risks and opportunities of emerging technologies.
Beginning in fall 2027, the Master of Science in Cybersecurity and AI Governance will prepare students to address complex challenges involving AI security, data privacy, ethical technology use and regulatory compliance. Applications for the inaugural cohort will open in October 2026.
Unlike traditional graduate programs that focus primarily on cybersecurity or technology policy, Nazarian College’s new degree integrates technical cybersecurity, AI and governance into a single interdisciplinary curriculum. Students will learn to build and secure AI-driven systems while developing the skills to assess technology risks and responsibly regulate, audit and govern those systems.
“Organizations need professionals who understand not only how to develop and protect emerging technologies, but also how to manage their broader impact,” says Chandra Subramaniam, dean of Nazarian College. “This program brings together business, technology and governance to address that growing need.”
The 30-unit curriculum includes coursework in cybersecurity management, governance, risk and compliance (GRC), AI governance, network infrastructure, cryptography and AI applications. Students will also complete a culminating graduate project focused on solving real-world organizational challenges.
Designed for both working professionals and recent graduates, the program welcomes students from diverse academic and career backgrounds, including business, computer science, engineering, law and public policy. No prior technical degree is required. Courses will be offered in person in the evenings to accommodate working professionals, and the program can be completed in two years.
Graduates will be prepared for careers in cybersecurity analysis, AI governance, information security management, GRC, data privacy, cyber policy and technology leadership across industries including healthcare, finance, government, consulting and technology.
“AI and cybersecurity are often treated as separate conversations, but organizations increasingly need professionals who understand how they intersect,” says Pouyan Eslami, assistant professor of information systems and director of the new master’s program. “Our graduates will be prepared to help organizations manage technology risks, strengthen governance and make informed decisions as AI becomes more deeply integrated into business operations.”
The new degree expands Nazarian College’s graduate offerings and reflects its commitment to preparing professionals for rapidly evolving industries. In addition to the Master of Science in Cybersecurity and AI Governance, the college offers a Master of Business Administration, Master of Science in Business Analytics, Master of Professional Accountancy and Master of Science in Taxation. The college will continue expanding its graduate portfolio with a Master of Science in Accounting Analytics, scheduled to launch in 2028.
