CSUN VITA Clinic Expands Free Tax Preparation Services Across Los Angeles County

The CSUN Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) Clinic, housed in the David Nazarian College of Business and Economics, is expanding its free tax preparation services to 18 sites across Los Angeles County for the 2026 tax season.

The program, which assists taxpayers earning $67,000 or less annually, will begin offering services in late January and continue through April 15. In addition to serving English- and non-English-speaking taxpayers, the clinic is partnering with the Greater Los Angeles Agency on Deafness to provide specialized services for deaf and hard-of-hearing community members.

The largest VITA site will operate out of Bookstein Hall on the CSUN campus, with appointments available Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Thursdays until 10 p.m. Additional locations include public libraries, community centers and family resource centers throughout the region.

“This program reflects our long-standing commitment to both student learning and community service,” said Rafael Efrat, Bookstein Chair in Taxation and director of the CSUN VITA Clinic, in a university announcement.

More than 300 trained student volunteers will staff the sites this year. At the conclusion of the tax season, 10 students demonstrating exceptional service will each receive a $1,000 scholarship supported by the VITA endowment.

Founded in 1970, CSUN VITA ranked first nationally among more than 7,000 VITA programs in 2025 for total tax returns transmitted, serving more than 10,600 low-income taxpayers in Los Angeles County.
