Bull Ring Finalist Spotlight: Brittany – Founder of Sassy Mouth Straws
Meet Brittany Evans, a passionate and driven student in her Junior year at CSUN who’s shaking up the boba tea industry—one straw at a time. Brittany is the founder of Sassy Mouth Straws, a company that offers customizable, reusable straws designed specifically for boba lovers. Her idea sparked from her own obsession with boba drinks and a keen eye for the untapped potential in an everyday item. While boba shops continue to innovate their drinks, she noticed the straws never changed—and that’s when inspiration hit.
“I’m always trying different boba places, but I realized I was just throwing away or recycling the same old straws every time,” Brittany says. “As someone who loves design and wants to stand out, I thought, ‘Why can’t the straw be part of the experience too?’”
She envisioned straws that could be personalized with colors, patterns or even a shop’s logo—making them perfect for businesses looking to enhance their brand and for individuals who want a little personality with their drink. The concept evolved into a hybrid B2B and B2C model, with straws available for businesses to purchase in bulk and for individuals through potential loyalty rewards or direct purchase.
A screenwriting major with a minor in journalism, Brittany is a true creative with an entrepreneurial spirit. Beyond her business, she also works at CSUN’s Sustainability Center as an event planner for the annual Big Show, one of CSUN’s most highly anticipated events. It’s no surprise she’s become a master of balancing responsibilities while staying rooted in her values and vision.
Her advice to other student entrepreneurs? “Know your product inside and out. Be obsessed with it. Think three steps ahead. And if you want it bad enough, you’ll find a way.”
