Call for Expressions of Interest – AI Academy
Overview
Academic Technology invites expressions of interest from faculty who would like to participate in the Summer 2026 AI Academy, a focused faculty learning experience on AI-native teaching practices in an AI-impacted learning environment.
This Academy is designed as a space where faculty will explore the practical, technical, and design implications of AI use in teaching.
About AI-Native Teaching
AI-native teaching moves beyond simply adding AI tools to existing assignments or course policies. It asks how faculty might intentionally use and structure AI within the learning environment. The Summer 2026 AI Academy will focus on how AI tools can support instructional materials, student practice, feedback workflows, documentation of process, transparency of expectations, and responsible use of AI.
Session Structure
Session I:
Time: Friday, May 29, 2026, from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
Location : Zoom
This session will focus on identifying a specific teaching challenge. Examples might include creating AI-supported learning materials, exploring AI-enabled feedback workflows, or developing specific student learning outcomes incorporating AI.
Session II:
Time: TBD in August before Fall 2026 semester starts
Location : TBD
This session will focus on AI-native strategies, tools, models, and implementation approaches. Participants will develop a brief proposal describing the challenge they want to address, the AI-native practice or technology-supported approach they want to explore in their teaching, and the support that would help them move innovation work forward.
Faculty selected for the AI Academy will receive a $500 stipend for full participation in Sessions 1 and 2 divided between the two sessions.
Eligibility and Criteria
This opportunity is open to faculty across disciplines who self-identify as meeting the following criteria:
- AI fluency: You are already comfortable using AI tools and are ready to move beyond introductory exploration.
- Fall teaching: You will be teaching at CSUN in Fall 2026. You have a course challenge where AI-native practices could be explored.
- Readiness to innovate new pedagogical approaches: You can identify a real teaching opportunity and are open to experimentation, reflection, collaboration, and peer feedback.
