
Dr. Peter L. Bishay Named 2025 Jerome Richfield Memorial Fellow
The College is pleased to announce Dr. Peter L. Bishay from the Department of Mechanical Engineering has been named as this year’s Jerome Richfield Memorial Fellow for 2025.
A distinguished scholar and educator, Dr. Bishay serves as a CSUN Mechanical Engineering Professor and directs the “Computational Mechanics and Smart Structures” Laboratory. With over 50 research publications in respected journals and conference proceedings, his work has garnered significant support from the US Department of Defense, NASA, and the National Science Foundation.
Dr. Bishay’s current research focuses on enhancing upper limb prostheses through improved control systems, haptic feedback, and training technologies. His groundbreaking work includes developing a foot controller for intuitive prosthesis operation and a virtual reality training system under the NSF-funded Mind, Machine, and Motor Nexus (M3X) program. These innovations aim to transform prosthesis development and significantly improve quality of life for individuals with limb loss.
