New Faculty for Fall 2023

- The CSUN Journalism Department is proud to welcome Prof. Ruben Keyoseyan as the department’s newest tenure-track professor. Prof. Keyoseyan is a seasoned newsroom leader and journalist with more than 30 years of experience. In L.A., he worked in Spanish-Language Journalism at Telemundo and La Opinión. And previously worked in Spanish-Language Journalism in Chicago, Santa Barbara and Puerto Rico. He will be using his in-depth knowledge of the Los Angeles market to our Spanish-Language Journalism minor and our broadcast classes. This fall he will be teaching JOUR 374 SLJ (Spanish-Language News Environment), JOUR 415 (TV News) and JOUR 430 (Public Affairs Reporting–On Point).
- Haley Sawyer is starting her first semester at several years as an adjunct professor at College of the Canyons. She is also a Los Angeles-based freelance journalist who is passionate about elevating women’s sports. She covers UCLA and USC sports, as well as high school sports for the Southern California News Group publications and writes features for community newspapers around Los Angeles. Prof. Sawyer will be teaching JOUR 495 SMJ(Social Media for Journalists) this fall.
- Wendy Hermanson Geller is a working journalist specializing in the entertainment field, having started her career at music startup LAUNCH, which eventually became acquired by Yahoo and where she spent 20 years in various editorial roles. Currently she is spearheading the weekend entertainment newsdesk for newly established outlet The Messenger, following editorial posts at PEOPLE and OK! magazines. Prof. Geller will be teaching a section of JOUR 325 this fall.
- Marta Valier is a researcher at the Tom & Ethel Bradley Center at CSUN and works on digital humanities projects focused on the area’s ethnic minority communities, using the center’s visual and aural resources. She produced the podcast Emancipated, Voices and Images from the Archives and collaborated on various multimedia projects. Previously, she worked as a news correspondent and a photo editor for the Italian media. She will be teaching a section of JOUR 225 this fall.
