New Daily Sundial adviser starts this fall

After a competitive search, Eduard Cauich has been selected to be the new Daily Sundial adviser. Cauich brings more than 20 years of experience in journalism to the student media outlet. After graduating from CSUN Journalism in 2000, Cauich worked for Univision New Mexico, the Ventura County Star, Azteca América and La Opinión. He is currently a reporter at the Los Angeles Times, where he has worked for more than 13 years, writing sports stories and covering the Latino and Spanish-language communities in Southern California. Cauich has covered the World Cup in Brazil, Russia and Qatar, in addition to multiple World Series, NBA Finals and Super Bowl games.

In his first week at the Daily Sundial, Cauich has enjoyed listening to many story ideas from student contributors, reporters and editors. He wants to positively impact students’ careers, prepare them for their first jobs in the media and be a mentor. During his undergraduate years at CSUN, Cauich had many professors and classmates who made a positive impact while he was a first-generation college student. Now, he wants to have that positive influence on students’ lives.

His return to CSUN is very personal for him since he met some of his best friends many years ago at CSUN and feels he is returning home. He is currently a student in the department’s in Mass Communication master’s degree program, where he was inspired to teach. Cauich is teaching the JOUR 397B Daily Sundial lab class with Professor Gretchen Macchiarella teaching JOUR 397C and is looking forward to meeting future writers, editors and multimedia journalists.
