Study by Miao lab upends our understanding of what happens to iron at earth’s core
Dr. Miao and a team of his students, in collaboration with researchers from several universities, have published work on a massive computational study of the element iron’s behavior at the Earth’s core. Their findings have caused a fundamental shift in the understanding of how iron reacts under intense pressure. The manuscript, titled “Pressure-induced redox reversal of iron and the distribution of elements in deep Earth” was published November 10 in Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences. Additionally, there is a media release about the work from the CSUN Newsroom.
