Paulette Shafranski (Kinesiology), professor emerita of dance, passed away on Aug. 11, 2024. She was 87.

Shafranski joined the San Fernando Valley State College (now CSUN) faculty in 1963. She motivated and inspired many students throughout her vibrant career. She also had a hand in designing the dance studio in Redwood Hall with its magnificent northern exposure with floor to ceiling windows and inspiring view to the mountains.

She also established the practice and standards for CSUN’s annual spring dance concerts. Her research focused on the physiological effects of training for jazz dance performance. The university honored her with a Distinguished Teaching award in 1982 and an Outstanding Faculty award in 1993.

She also gave back philanthropically to CSUN, establishing the Paulette Shafranski Dance Scholarship in the Department of Kinesiology. She was a member of the University’s President’s Associates.
