CSU Health Policy Conference — Spring 2026

In Spring 2026, a cohort of 24 Health Sciences students from CSUN proudly represented the university at the annual CSU Health Policy Conference, with Instructors Crystal Adams and Susan Cohen as faculty chaperones. Held in Sacramento, the event brought together students, faculty, and policymakers from across the California State University system to engage in critical discussions on public health legislation, equity in healthcare access, and emerging challenges in health policy.

Our students actively participated in breakout sessions, panel discussions, and networking events with state legislators and public health leaders. All students participated in a tour of the Capitol and listened to health committee testimonies. Two of our esteemed CSUN alumni, Maral Farsi and Ryan Skaggs, shared their experiences and expertise on a panel. Our students demonstrated exceptional professionalism, curiosity, and commitment to advancing health equity and policy reform. This experience not only deepened their understanding of the policymaking process but also empowered them to envision their future roles as advocates and leaders in public health. “Watching the lights go on for our students when they “got” what health policy means to them and how they can affect change, was the most memorable,” said Susan Cohen. Their engagement at the conference reflects the department’s dedication to experiential learning and preparing students to influence health outcomes at the local, state, and national levels.
