Dr. Stephan Chung Honored with Dual Awards for Innovation and Sustained Excellence
California State University, Northridge has honored Dr. Stephan (Kyusuk) Chung, a faculty member in the Department of Health Sciences, with two of its most prestigious accolades for the 2025–2026 academic year: the High-Impact Innovation Award and the Highly Influential and Sustained Innovation Award. Together, these honors recognize his transformative leadership, visionary curriculum design, and a decade-long commitment to equipping students for professional success.
At the forefront of Dr. Chung’s recent achievements is the creation of the groundbreaking Master of Science in Healthcare Data Analytics (MHDA) program. As a first-of-its-kind degree in the nation, the MHDA utilizes an innovative “stackable certificate” model that directly aligns academic study with the demands of a rapidly evolving field. To ensure its real-world relevance, Dr. Chung spearheaded a specialized task force composed of prominent industry experts and multidisciplinary faculty, seamlessly bridging the gap between rigorous classroom theory and modern workforce needs. These recent breakthroughs build upon more than ten years of sustained excellence at CSUN. The Highly Influential and Sustained Innovation Award celebrates Dr. Chung’s career-long dedication to redesigning programs to integrate high-impact, experiential, and executive-level learning.
This hands-on instructional leadership is powerfully reflected in the achievements of CSUN’s MHA students at the American College of Healthcare Executives (ACHE) statewide College Bowl. Under his dedicated mentorship, the team has consistently reached the podium with top-three finishes for four consecutive years, outperforming many highly competitive programs. Beyond the competition arena, Dr. Chung’s guidance has been instrumental in helping students secure elite, national-level recognition, including prestigious administrative fellowships at leading organizations like Kaiser Permanente. Through this powerful combination of forward-thinking program design and unwavering mentorship, Dr. Chung continues to strengthen the academic community while positioning CSUN graduates to lead the future of the healthcare industry.
