Forms of Expressive Maya Culture in Guatemala w/ Diego Vasquez Monterroso

The Maya are well known for their pictorial expressions, their writing, and dances, especially those performed before the European invasion. This webinar will focus on the connection between those ancient expressions and their colonial and modern correlates.

Although in Western societies many of the artistic expressions are disconnected from the communities from which they arise, in the Maya worlds these are a crucial element of their reproduction as societies but also for their association with ritual, political, and historical memory contexts.
