The Therapist’s Notebook for Teletherapy with Children and Adolescents
Deborah Buttitta, Shyrea Minton, Dana Stone, and two marriage and family therapy program alumni, Teddy Goyer & Jacob Kajiwara, published a chapter titled School-Based Mindfulness Program for Teletherapy, in The Therapist’s Notebook for Teletherapy with Children and Adolescents. The chapter is grounded in evidence-based practices and foundational theories as a framework for school-based teletherapy. Most importantly, the chapter provides practitioners with information on how to implement a mindfulness program in the classroom, how to integrate teachers and the school system, step-by-step instructions, setup and preparation, guidance on facilitation, and a detailed description of one intervention that addresses self-regulation and emotional awareness. The program was used extensively with much success by students training at the Mitchel Family Counseling Center at CSUN, delivered at various schools in the greater Los Angeles area, and was adapted for teletherapy during the pandemic.
