Kimberly Herrera Organizes El Salvador Donation Drive
Kimberly Herrera, a student in the MA in Early Childhood Educational Psychology program, goes every winter with her family to El Salvador to bring much needed items for the families of a very poor pueblo. Her classmates in Dr. Carrie Rothstein-Fisch’s class rallied to bring educational supplies, hygiene products, and clothing. Kimberly writes:
“I was honored to represent the Early Childhood Educational Psychology, M.A. program in El Salvador, where I had the unique opportunity to make a meaningful impact on children and families facing economic challenges. Thanks to my cohort’s generous support, I gathered and donated essential supplies, including food, clothing, and hygiene items, to those in need in a small pueblo nestled in the mountains. This mission was deeply personal for me, as I was able to continue a childhood tradition of helping those enduring hardships. The experience was a powerful reminder of my ultimate goal: to advocate for and assist vulnerable communities, empowering them to overcome adversity.”
“Through this journey, I witnessed the importance of solidarity and the difference we can make when we come together to help others. I hope to make this donation drive a yearly initiative, sponsored by CSUN, to continue providing support to those in need. We must invest in the well-being of children, as they are the future of any community. Supporting them, providing resources, and allowing them to reach their full potential is not just a responsibility, but a privilege. By continuing these efforts, I hope to foster a sense of hope and opportunity for children in underserved areas, helping them break free from the cycle of poverty and realize their dreams.”
