Fifth Annual Science ExplanaJam Contest

The CSUN Science Learning Collaboratory (including College of Education professors Foley, Herr and Maiorca) conducted their Fifth annual Science ExplanaJam Contest. Students from across Los Angeles prepared videos showing how the can explain important science concepts. A team of scientists and educators scored the videos. Fifteen videos were awarded prizes for elementary, middle and high school as well as for climate change and a new prize this year for misinformation debunking. Top videos explained topics like the Bubonic Plague, the possibility of banana extinction and the dangers of melting permafrost. The Debunking prizes set the record straight about menstrual cycle syncing, knuckle cracking and bone smashing.
