Friday September 25th 2026 7:30 PM, Shigemi Matsumoto Recital Hall

Entitled “Echoes of China: Contemporary Piano Music,” this recital features a selection of piano works by six award-winning living Chinese, Chinese American and Chinese Canadian composers, namely Zhou Long, Tan Dun, Alexina Louie, Lei Liang, and Zhang Zhao, as well as Japanese composer Somei Satoh. Their music shares the common thread of embracing a blend of Asian and western traditions as well as reaching across musical boundaries. These compelling, diverse and deeply expressive pieces works drew inspiration from Chinese folk music, instruments, spirituality, poetry and philosophy. They provide a window through which one can experience the works of some of today’s finest Asian composers. The performer will include verbal notes and PowerPoint slides on the composers and the music in the concert.
