Fall 2026 Course Offering: Introduction to Digital Humanities

Course Title: “Digital Tools for the Humanities: Reading, Writing, and Thinking Digitally

In DH 120 Introduction to Digital Humanities, we will explore how creating, reading and interpreting stories, poems, and other forms of expression change when authors and readers move to operate into digital spaces. We will cover foundational concepts in the humanities and introduce some of the major theoretical perspectives about the specific ways in which literary studies – and the humanities disciplines at large – access, produce, and disseminate knowledge in digital environments. The course looks at how people read, write, and share ideas using technology, and how these changes affect the way we understand meaning, literature and culture. Students will use easy-to-learn digital and computational tools to explore themes such as identity, community, and storytelling across many kinds of texts, including books, poems, images, and multimedia projects. We will also talk about how reading online is different from reading print and how technology shapes the way we make and interpret meaning in texts today. No technical background is required. The course focuses on curiosity, experimentation, and learning new ways to think about literature and the humanities at large in a digital world.
