From Computer Science to Business Analytics: An M.S. BANA Graduate Story

For Denise Anciola, the Master of Science in Business Analytics program at Nazarian College has been a meaningful step in connecting her technical background with real-world business applications.

A first-generation college student with a background in computer science, Anciola entered the M.S. BANA program seeking a graduate experience that would strengthen her technical skills while teaching her how to use data strategically in business settings. Through coursework, hands-on projects and applied learning opportunities, she says she found exactly that.

“Being part of the M.S. BANA program has been one of the most rewarding experiences of my academic and professional journey,” Anciola says.

Her experience reflects one of the program’s key strengths: helping students translate technical knowledge into practical, data-driven problem-solving skills. Students from backgrounds in computer science, information systems, business and related fields develop expertise in analytics, programming, machine learning, statistical analysis and data visualization while working on real-world business challenges.

As a first-generation college student, Anciola says being part of a supportive and collaborative academic community has been especially meaningful.

“The faculty are knowledgeable, encouraging and genuinely invested in student success,” Anciola says.

That support extended beyond the classroom. Anciola says the relationships she built with classmates were another valuable part of the experience, helping challenge, motivate and inspire her throughout graduate school.

The program also supported her professional growth by providing opportunities to network, collaborate and build confidence as she prepares for a career in analytics and technology. She says the practical nature of the curriculum taught her how to think critically, communicate insights effectively and approach complex business challenges through data.

For students preparing to begin the M.S. BANA program, Anciola encourages them to take full advantage of opportunities both inside and outside the classroom.

“Stay curious, collaborate with your peers and challenge yourself both technically and professionally,” she says. “The experience, connections and skills you gain through the program can have a lasting impact on both your career and personal growth.”
