Disability Awareness Month
October 2025 is Disability Awareness Month and the College of Humanities and the Disability Studies Minor are celebrating with a fun and diverse slate of events.
Thursday, October 9, from 10:00am to 4:00pm, near the Bookstore Lawn: The Painted Brain Project
Stop by the Disability Studies table near the Bookstore lawn to contribute your creative expression to a large-scale, online exhibit being curated in partnership with the Painted Brain. Information and resources related to Disability Studies and Disability Awareness will be available along with snacks.
Thursday, October 17, from 4:00 to 8:00pm, in JR-316: Movie Night
A movie screening of Give me Liberty followed by a talkback with actor, writer, and advocate Teal Sherer, and actor, author, advocate, and CSUN alum Lauren “Lolo” Spencer. Entertainment and enlightening conversation about the representation of people with disabilities in the arts, and what life is like for artists with disabilities navigating the professional landscape in the entertainment industry.
Tuesday, October 21, from 4:00 to 5:30pm, online: Neurodiversity Teaching Workshop
As part of Invisible Disabilities Week, Professor Kelan Koning (CSUN) and Dr. Pau Abustan (CSULA) will present an online workshop open to all students, faculty, and staff, “Cultivating Joyful Neurodivergent Learning Spaces of Resistance.” Registration for this event is accessible HERE.
