Empower Expo – Resources for Every Ability

This Fall, Family Focus Resource Center, in collaboration with the North LA County Regional Center, hosted its annual resource fair: Empower Expo – Resources for Every Ability at the USU. The event welcomed more than 1,100 guests for a day dedicated to families of children and young adults with disabilities.

Highlights included 75 exhibitors, 12 micro-businesses, 9 educational workshops, therapy dogs, the 501st Legion, and a lively dance for over 100 adults with disabilities in the Grand Salon. A special presentation by Senator Caroline Menjivar added to the day’s excitement. Several CSUN departments participated, including Music Therapy, Center of Achievement, CSUN Explorers, Language, Speech and Hearing Center, CHIME Institute, and Early Childhood Special Education.

Under the leadership of Dr. Ivor Weiner, Principal Investigator and Special Education Professor, Family Focus Resource Center continues to grow as a vital community resource, offering support from staff who are themselves parents or relatives of individuals with disabilities. FFRC maintains offices on campus in Education Administration, as well as in Chatsworth, Santa Clarita, and Lancaster.
