Student Employee Scheduling During Spring Break | March 16 – 22
This year, Spring Break takes place from Monday, March 16th through Sunday, March 22nd.
Student Employees may work up to 40 hours during the Spring Break work week (Sunday through Saturday). However, please be cautious not to allow work to exceed 40 hours in that week. The State Controller’s Office cannot pay overtime (hours in excess of 40 per work week) for Student Employees. Also, while there are no classes scheduled during Spring Break, please be sensitive to the possibility that students may have assignments or project work during the break.
Please visit the Student Assistant Compensation Plan Webpage for additional information or contact Classification and Compensation at hrclass-comp@csun.edu with any questions.
Semester Breaks
When school is not in session due to semester breaks (outside of the academic semester), continuing Student Assistants may work up to a maximum of 40 hours per week, but may not be scheduled to work overtime. Overtime is defined as more than 40 hours per work week (work week is defined as Sunday through Saturday). A schedule may exceed 8 hours a day provided the total for the work week does not exceed 40 hours. The Controller’s Office will not issue payments to Student Assistants in excess of 168 hours for a 21-day period, nor in excess of 176 hours for a 22-day period.
Academic Semesters
During the Academic Semester (please see CSUN campus academic calendar), Student Assistants may work up to, but not in excess of, 20 hours per week total in all positions combined.
