Launch of the new interdisciplinary Minor in Disability Studies!

On October 24th, 2024, the new Minor in Disability Studies marked its official launch with a talk from renowned activist and scholar Ly XZ Brown called, “Visioning Liberated Futures.” Brown, who has been honored by the White House as a “Champion of Change,” is a writer, educator, trainer, consultant, community organizer, and attorney. They are the founder of the Autistic People of Color Fund, director of public policy at the National Disability Institute, and a professor of Gender and Critical Race Studies.

Brown spoke on social justice, disability rights, intersectionality, institutions, policing, and “abolition in the present moment.”

This event was proudly co-sponsored by Queer Studies, Criminology and Social Justice, Asian American Studies, Gender and Women’s Studies, Interdisciplinary Studies and Liberal Studies, English, Philosophy, and the Center for Civil Discourse and Social Change.
