Matador Motorsports Team Earns Highest Placement Yet in Formula SAE Competition
CSUN’s Matador Motorsports team achieved their best-ever finish at the Formula SAE competition, placing fifth overall and outperforming major engineering schools including Purdue, Kansas State, and UC San Diego. The 25-member team, led by senior Jose Nuñez and supervised by professor Stewart Prince, competed at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway from June 16-19 2021. The team focused on driver comfort in their Formula One-style car design, featuring innovations like a steering wheel-mounted dash display. They successfully completed all events, including the challenging 20km endurance race which only nine out of 22 teams finished. This hands-on project, divided among seven specialized sub-teams, provides valuable real-world engineering experience for students entering the workforce.
