CSUN was the ‘Home’ Students Needed on their Path to Graduation

Mohammadreza Iranpour, a 36-year-old Iranian power engineer, arrived at Cal State Northridge last year with his wife and limited English skills. Within one year, he’s co-authored multiple research papers on critical infrastructure cybersecurity, earned second place at the Texas Power and Energy Conference, and secured a research assistant position at UCLA’s B. John Garrick Institute for the Risk Sciences.

His collaboration with CSUN professor Rasoul Narimani focuses on designing simulated cyber-attacks on power systems to better understand and prevent real threats. Iranpour graduates this year after a remarkable academic turnaround that he credits to his family’s support and the opportunities provided by CSUN’s engineering programs.
