CSUN Hosts Inaugural ATI Summit

Born out of the CSUN Assistive Technology conference in March, the California State University (CSU) system, the Director of Digital Accessibility and Equity at the Chancellor’s Office, and several campus colleagues wanted to continue the conversations and synergy, but focus on the CSU and the ATI. The Chancellor’s Office selected CSU Northridge for our long-standing commitment to accessibility, along with our convenient location and amenities.

The Chancellor’s Office sponsored this two-day event that brought together colleagues from Humboldt to San Diego, and most campuses in between. CSUN’s Vice President for Information Technology, CIO, and ATI Executive Sponsor Ron Philip played an instrumental role in bringing the ATI Summit together in such a short timeframe, and gave the welcoming remarks on the second day of the summit.

Microsoft’s Dr. Elka Walsh gave the keynote speech about Accessibility at Scale, touching on Microsoft’s artificial intelligence solution Copilot and accessibility enhancements in Microsoft products.

Colleagues from within the CSU, as well as external partners, presented on accessibility efforts within the CSU, next steps, and how to prepare for the changes to the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) taking effect this coming April 24, 2026.

Housing and Conference Services provided space in the CSUN dormitories for colleagues from farther campuses. Meals together at G’mos provided opportunities for informal communication and collaboration.

The first ATI Summit at CSUN was successful, popular, and we’re already looking forward to next year’s Summit at a campus in Northern California!
