Oasis Wellness Center: A Nurturing Escape

By Corinna Yee

For more than 10 years, the Oasis Wellness Center has been a calming space for Matadors to de-stress and center themselves as they navigate the demands of deadlines, activities and home life. As a CSUN graduate herself, wellness center supervisor Abigayle Brown understands the pressures of an academic schedule. She felt that her role “was the best way to assist students directly with mental health and wellness.” For three years, Brown has helped students achieve balance in their personal, academic and work routines, assisting with the opening of the pro-shop.

True to its name, the center is tucked in a comforting nook beneath the main walkway that runs through the University Student Union, serving as a much-needed escape from a busy day of classes and assignments. Before he started working at the center in 2023, student assistant employee Alex Dominguez had only stepped inside once. However, he was motivated to join the team because he “really liked the environment and [that it was] calming.”

The center is also a place for learning how to care for your physical and mental wellbeing. On a weekly basis, students can pick up tips on everything from skincare to aromatherapy. Brown noted the benefits of several classes offered at Oasis: “Our classes are really cool. Lymphatic brush is a really good stress reliever and good for lymphatic drainage. Students like to come to the aroma blending classes because they can take it home with them.”

If you need to replenish nutrients, the Oasis Wellness Center has you covered. With an assortment of BlueShift Superblend products, you can stop in and sample refreshing beverages that provide sustenance and vitamins to get you through the day.

The Oasis Wellness Center is constantly introducing new ways for students to indulge in some self-care. You can now try the red-light therapy sessions for both the face and body. These innovative treatments smooth fine lines, even skin tone, fight acne and promote muscle recovery.

Whether you’re sinking into a massage chair for some muscular relief, or nabbing a nap in a nap pod, the Oasis serves as a reminder to all that you can take as little as ten minutes to treat yourself and ease your worries. The Oasis Wellness Center is here for you whenever you need some mindfulness and a breath of fresh air.
