CSUN Cuts the Ribbon for The Valera NEST in the USU

CSUN officials and donors celebrate the formal opening of The Valera NEST

The Valera NEST (a Nurturing Environment for Students to Thrive) in the University Student Union opened to the campus community on Jan. 20, 2026 in time for the start of the spring 2026 semester.

On Feb. 27, the university held a ribbon-cutting ceremony to formally unveil the space in the heart of the campus where students can access essential resources, build community and thrive as they pursue their educational goals.

A first-of-its-kind resource center in the CSU system, The Valera NEST centralizes access to food, housing, clothing and wellness services. Born from compassion, collaboration and a shared commitment to student success, this innovative hub for basic needs reflects what’s possible when campus partners come together with students at the center.
