The Auntie Sewing Squad: Decolonizing Leadership through Radical Care

Valerie Soe, Award-Winning Filmmaker Professor of Asian American Studies San Francisco State University

Our guest speaker, Valerie Soe, will show clips of her upcoming documentary on the Asian American Sewing Squad, a collective of Aunties, Uncles, and non- binary BIPOC volunteers who sewed and donated cloth facemasks for first responders, First Nations People, prisoners of San Quentin Federal Penitentiary, and grocery store workers. This event is a must for those interested in learning about Asian American/AAPIDA feminism, decolonial leadership, solidarity work, disabilities studies, radical care and documentary filmmaking.

This event is sponsored by the Asian American Studies Department, College of Humanities Academic Programming Fund, and the AB 1460 Implementation Working Group Event programming fund.
