
The Spring 2026 Cinematheque presents a series of films by British-American actress, director, and producer Ida Lupino.
Lupino was crowned the “First Lady of Noir”—the first woman to direct in the noir genre and the only woman director of the Post-War era. She was a bona fide movie star—beautiful, talented, dazzling. Lupino wrote and directed films with subjects so taboo the Hollywood studios wouldn’t touch them, considered “beyond the pale” by viewers who experienced them at their time of initial release.
