Black History Month 2025 Event - The Legacy of Labor: Black Student Athletes Exchange

About this Event

Join the Department of Africana Studies for a Special Black History Month Event!

Monday, February 10, 2025 | 6:00PM until 7:30 | University Student Union (USU), Grand Salon

Join us for The Legacy of Labor: Black Student-Athletes Exchange, a Black History Month 2025 event celebrating the profound contributions of Black student-athletes to both sports and labor advocacy. This engaging panel discussion will examine the enduring impact of trailblazers like Jackie Robinson and Muhammad Ali—athletes who broke barriers and leveraged their platforms to champion racial equality and labor rights.

The panel will also explore contemporary challenges facing Black student-athletes, including the evolving dynamics of Name, Image, and Likeness (NIL) opportunities and the transfer portal. These developments are transforming financial empowerment and mobility in collegiate sports.

Don’t miss this opportunity to reflect on how the legacy of labor continues to shape the fight for equality, justice, and a more equitable future for Black student-athletes.
