CJS Instructor Darrell Lowe
The department of Criminology and Justice Studies is sad that one of our Instructors, Darrell Lowe is no longer teaching for CJS or CSUN, We are however, quite happy for the reason he left Southern California.
CJS Lecturer and CSUN Alum (Soc’ 2000). Captain Darrell Lowe a 26 year veteran of the Santa Monica Police Department has been selected as the Chief of Police for the Redmond Washington Police Department, selected from a national search that elicited 54 applicants.
Meet the new Chief of Police – Redmond, Washington
Captain Lowe is a seasoned and accomplished member of the Santa Monica Police Department (SMPD). A graduate of the 249th session of the FBI National Academy in Quantico Virginia, Cal-Chiefs Executive Leadership Institute- Drucker School of Management at Claremont University, The Safer Communities Institute at the University of Southern California.
Captain Lowe holds a Master degree in Emergency Services Administration from Cal State University Long Beach, Bachelors degree in Sociology from Cal State University Northridge. A POST Master Instructor, Certified curriculum developer and designer, and published author.
Captain Lowe worked a variety of Operational assignments at SMPD including Patrol, School Resource Officer, 3rd Street Promenade Bike Patrol, A variety of Administrative assignments Including Internal Affairs, Executive Officer to the Deputy Chief, Executive Officer of both the Operations and Investigations Divisions.
During his tenure, Captain Lowe was very engaged in the Santa Monica community representing the department as a board member of Kiwanis, Boys and Girls club, West-side Inter-faith council, Human Relations Council, Citizens for Racial Justice, Citizens for Police Reform, and a supporter for the Santa Monica Police Activities League (PAL), Police Explorer Post, and the recently launched Juvenile Diversion Program which seeks alternative and Restorative Justice ways to engage and interact with youth who violate the law.
Captain Lowe was the architect of both the Santa Monica Police Department’s beat reconfiguration when the Metro light-rail returned to Santa Monica, and it’s updated Warrant due-diligence protocol. Captain Lowe has been the Department’s lead facilitator for its Constitutional Policing, Procedural Justice and Implicit Bias training curriculum training the departments entire (500) personnel .
The Redmond City Council recently met and approved the hiring of Chief Lowe.
