DESCRIPTION:Guest Artist\, Susan Chan\, piano\nFriday September 25th 2026 7:30 PM\, Shigemi Matsumoto Recital Hall \n\nEntitled “Echoes of China: Contemporary Piano Music” this recital features a selection of piano works by six award-winning living Chinese\, Chinese American and Chinese Canadian composers composers\, namely Zhou Long\, Tan Dun\, Alexina Louie\, Lei Liang\, and Zhang Zhao\, as well as Japanese composer Somei Satoh.  Their music shares the common thread of embracing a blend of Asian and western traditions as well as reaching across musical boundaries. Praised for her technical mastery\, expressive artistry\, and commitment to expanding the piano repertoire\, she has appeared at renowned venues including Carnegie Hall\, St Martin-in-the-Fields in London\, and Hong Kong City Hall. A passionate advocate for music by contemporary\, female\, and Asian composers\, Chan has earned numerous awards and critical acclaim for her recordings and performances. This concert features a fantastic piece for violin and clarinet by Minnesota composer\, Libby Larsen titled “A Tarantella for Our Times” performed by CSUN’s own faculty members\, Lorenz Gamma and Julia Heinen. In addition\, there are winning compositions by TEMPO’s annual Call for Scores. Featured will be Dayton Hare — ebb\, flow; Anthony Iannaccone — White Water; Richard Derby — Pick a Low Note; Kolten Heeren — Scherzo; Oswald Huỳnh — Memory revises me; Luca Pasquini — Contour Intervals; and Jessica Lee — What Flickered Between the Reveries?   Please join us for an evening of celebrating new music! \nTEMPO (The Epicenter Music Performance Organization)\, dedicated to the pursuit\, performance\, and perseverance of contemporary music\, was formed in 2008 at California State University\, Northridge by Daniel Kessner and Julia Heinen. This ground-breaking ensemble seeks to promote and celebrate the rich diversity of our world through the performance of contemporary musical stories. \nIn 2026-2027 TEMPO celebrates its 18th season of bringing contemporary music to the world.  In addition to programming established contemporary works\,  it also hosts an annual “Call for Scores\,” selecting several works to feature each season.\n\nOur 18th season will feature in Spring 2027\, the 100th birthday celebration of CSUN Professor Emeritus of Composition\, Frank Campo. In addition to performing several of Frank’s works\, we also will be joined by guest artist violinist\, Darius Campo\, Frank’s son. DESCRIPTION:Faculty Artist Recital: Yu-Ting Peng\, piano\nwith\nGuest Artist\, Stello Cho\, cello\nThursday October 15th 2026\, 7:30 PM\, Shigemi Matsumoto Recital Hall \nFree and Open to the Public \n  \n \nProgram Notes TBA \nDr. Yu-Ting Peng is a collaborative pianist and educator who earned her Doctor of Musical Arts in Keyboard Collaborative Arts from the USC Thornton School of Music\, where she was named Outstanding Graduate and received an Ensemble Award. She has collaborated in master classes with internationally acclaimed artists including Midori Gotō\, Augustin Hadelich\, Hilary Hahn\, Ray Chen\, and Jean-Yves Thibaudet\, and has served as an official collaborative pianist for programs including Meadowmount School of Music\, Chamber Music Northwest\, the American Viola Society\, and Sounding Point. A Grand Prize winner of the Music Academy Duo Competition\, Dr. Peng currently serves as a collaborative pianist at USC and the Colburn School and is a faculty member in Collaborative Piano at California State University\, Northridge. \nSouth Korean cellist Stella Cho made her London solo debut at the Royal Albert Hall at age fifteen and has since performed throughout Europe\, South Korea\, and the United States\, including appearances at the Royal Concertgebouw in Amsterdam and Slovak Philharmonic Hall in Bratislava. She has participated in renowned festivals including Yellow Barn\, Ravinia Steans Institute\, Aspen Music Festival\, La Jolla SummerFest\, the Perlman Music Program\, and IMS Prussia Cove. Cho earned her bachelor’s and master’s degrees with honors at USC’s Thornton School of Music\, studying with Ralph Kirshbaum\, and later studied with Laurence Lesser at the New England Conservatory. She completed her DMA at USC as the Outstanding DMA Graduate.
