Dr. Park\, a Seoul native\, has performed at Carnegie Hall\, the Kennedy Center\, and Lincoln Center\, and is Professor of Piano at Murray State University. Dr. Gianforte\, praised for his sensitivity and panache\, has appeared across the U.S. and abroad\, including Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall\, and serves as Professor and Coordinator of the Keyboard Division at Murray State. Together\, they present a powerful program featuring Schubert’s Fantasia in F Minor\, Liszt’s Réminiscences de Don Juan\, Barber’s Souvenirs\, and Ravel’s La valse—a thrilling showcase of virtuosity\, color\, and dramatic flair. \n \nARTIST BIOGRAPHIES \nA native of Seoul\, Korea\, Meeyoun Park has performed to critical acclaim throughout the United States and abroad as both a soloist and collaborator\, having played in significant venues such as Carnegie Hall\, The Kennedy Center\, and Lincoln Center. Her musical versatility has led to collaboration with the Korean National Opera Company\, the Carmel Klavier International Piano Competition\, Indiana University Opera Theater\, and with many renowned singers and instrumentalists from around the world. With her husband\, pianist Matthew Gianforte\, Park has appeared as a duo pianist at festivals\, artist series\, conferences\, and at universities across the country. Dr. Park is a graduate of Yonsei University in Seoul\, Korea\, where\, under the tutelage of Bong-Ae Shin and Sung Yup Hwang\, she earned an undergraduate degree in piano performance. She continued her studies with Karen Shaw at Indiana University\, where she earned the Master of Music\, Performer Diploma\, and Doctor of Music degrees in piano performance. Equally at home as an artist-teacher\, Dr. Park is currently Professor of Piano at Murray State University\, having previously served as a staff accompanist at the Oberlin Conservatory and DePauw University. In summer 2017\, Dr. Park joined the faculty of the prestigious Indiana University Summer Piano Academy\, where she works with talented pre-college pianists from around the globe. She regularly serves as a master class clinician and guest adjudicator in competitions across the country. \n  \nRecognized for both his sensitivity and panache\, pianist Matthew Gianforte enjoys an active career as a soloist\, collaborator\, and teacher\, having performed across the United States and abroad. Highlights of past seasons include an eleven-concert tour of China in 2019\, successful debut appearances at Weill Recital Hall (Carnegie Hall\, New York)\, Sarada and Philia Halls in Japan\, as well as appearances at numerous festivals\, artist series\, conferences\, and university guest recitals across the country. With his wife\, pianist Meeyoun Park\, he is a highly sought-after performer of the duo piano and four-hand literature. Violinist Niv Ashkenazi and bassoonist Leah Kohn present a fascinating program that blends beloved classics with unexpected gems and new arrangements\, exploring works from Paganini and Saint-Saëns\, to Bloch\, Gershwin and the Beatles. \n  \nLEARN MORE about DYAD \nVirtuoso violinist Niv Ashkenazi has captivated audiences with his heartfelt musicianship and emotional performances. Dyad\, her duo with violinist Niv Ashkenazi\, has performed on concert series throughout California and at many venues on the East Coast\, including a recent performance at the Kennedy Center. \nAs well as freelance and studio work in Los Angeles\, Leah has performed at the Lake George Music Festival\, as a fellow at the Norfolk Music Festival\, at several programs at the Banff Centre\, and at Fresh Inc. Born in Seoul\, Korea\, Dr. Yun moved to the United States at the age of six where she continued her musical studies. \nThe top prizewinner of numerous international and national competitions\, Dr. Yun received her Bachelor and Master of Music degrees\, and Performer’s Diploma on full scholarship from Indiana University Jacobs School of Music as a Thomson Star Fellow\, studying under Karen Shaw\, Edmund Battersby\, and Menahem Pressler. She received her Doctor of Musical Arts Degree under Ian Hobson at University of Illinois Urbana Champaign. \nDr. Yun has performed in international music festivals such as Aspen\, Atlantic\, Folgarida\, International Keyboard Institute and Festival\, DPS\, Shandelee\, Prague\, Montecito\, Taeurueng\, Oregon\, and InterHarmony International Music Festival. She has appeared as a soloist with numerous orchestras including Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra\, Indianapolis Philharmonic\, Camerata\, SunnySide\, Beaverton\, and the Folgarida Festival Orchestra.  As a recitalist and active collaborative musician\, she has performed throughout the US\, Prague\, Italy\, Austria\, Germany\, Hong Kong\, Philippines\, and South Korea. \nAn avid pedagogue\, teaching has been an important and substantial part of Dr. Yun’s career. His artistry has led to collaborations with prestigious ensembles and institutions across the country. He earned 1st Prize in the Sacramento State Festival of New American Music Student Performance Competition and was a finalist in the Sierra-Nevada International Guitar Competition. He also secured 1st Prize in the Sacramento Region American String Teachers’ Association Competition. \nGeorge has performed with distinguished groups such as the Cantanti Project\, Ensemble Musica Humana\, and the Brooklyn Composers’ Collective. On the West Coast\, he is frequently engaged in projects with Backyard Baroque and Sinfonia Spirituosa in Sacramento\, and as a soloist at Oregon State University. His international endeavors include giving praised performances in Koblenz\, Germany as part of Duo Raccontare with soprano\, Dr. Kathleen O’Rourke\, and as a soloist in Khanom\, Thailand.  George holds a Doctor of Musical Arts degree from Stony Brook University\, where his culminating studies focused on the analysis and interpretation of French and Italian lute works of the 17th century\, as well as 20th-century serial compositions for the guitar. He earned his Master of Music degree from Sacramento State and his Bachelor of Music\, cum laude\, from CSU Northridge. His teachers have included Jerry Willard\, Richard Savino\, Steven Thachuk\, Gyan Riley\, and Brandon Yip. \nAward-winning and acclaimed as “stunning and emotive” (Eugene Register-Guard)  and “accomplished and soulful” (Portland Magazine) Cameron O’Connor enjoys a diverse career in solo\, chamber\, and contemporary music. Performance highlights include solo and duo recitals throughout Japan; featured appearances with the Oregon Symphony; Castelnuovo-Tedesco’s Quintet with Amici Chamber Music; recitals for the Loyola Marymount\, Corvallis\, Siempre la Guitarra\, and Northwest Guitar Festivals; chamber music and opera appearances with Eugene Opera and musicians of the Oregon Symphony in their Classical Up Close concert series; chamber music at the New World Symphony in Miami (for which the South Florida Classical Review noted that he was “especially effective in the quick and diabolical figures”); appearing as a guest artist and performing duos with Sharon Isbin at the Aspen Music Festival and School; performing with Michael Tilson Thomas and the New World Symphony; and appearing under the baton of Chinese composer Tan Dun in his Eastern-tinged Concerto for Six\, for which the New York Times noted that “O’Connor fluttered on his guitar strings in a manner reminiscent of a pipa player’s technique.” He is furthermore a prizewinner in many international competitions\, including the Frances Walton and Tokyo International Guitar Competition. His playing has been featured in films\, including James Franco’s Don Quixote and Scott Tennant’s instructional classic Pumping Nylon\, and his performances have been featured on Seattle’s Classical 98.1 KingFM\,  All Classical Portland\, American Public Media’s Performance Today\, and KPFK’s Global Village. His recording of Michael Lee’s Unmasked (written for O’Connor) was chosen for Ablaze Record’s Millenial Masters\, distributed by Naxos. As a composer\, O’Connor won the Keene State College Call for Scores and the “Outstanding Winner” 2nd prize at the Changsha International Guitar Festival in China\, and was a finalist in the Portugal International Guitar Composition Competition. O’Connor also performs regularly for musical theatre productions on electric guitar\, banjo\, and mandolin\, as well as in early music settings on the vihuela and lute. \nO’Connor was a full scholarship recipient at CSU Northridge\, where he studied with Ron Borczon\, Ron Purcell (lute)\, and Steve Thachuk; the Juilliard School in New York City\, where he studied with Sharon Isbin; and at the USC Thornton School of Music under William Kanengiser. Upon receiving his degree\, the Thornton School recognized him as the Outstanding Doctoral Graduate of his class. He currently serves on the faculty of Oregon State University. The group routinely performs premieres and recently composed works in addition to standard works of the 20th and 21st centuries. \nThis concert is a special one\, celebrating the 80th birthday of Daniel Kessner\, one of the founding members of TEMPO. Dan is professor emeritus of music at California State University\, Northridge. \nComposer-flutist-conductor Daniel Kessner received his Ph.D. with Distinction at the University of California\, Los Angeles\, in 1971\, studying with Henri Lazarof. His more than 140 compositions have received over 800 performances worldwide\, and 28 works are recorded commercially. Most of his scores are available from Theodore Front Musical Literature at tfront.com. \nKessner’s most important awards include the Queen Marie-José International Composition Prize in Geneva (1972)\, a 2003 Fulbright Senior Scholar Award to lecture and perform at the Musikhochschule in Trossingen\, Germany\, a Fulbright Senior Specialist Grant to perform and lecture in Trondheim\, Norway in 2007\, and similar residency at the Universidade do Minho in Portugal in 2011. \nHe is now Professor Emeritus at California State University\, Northridge\, retired after a career of 36 years teaching composition and music theory and directing various ensembles from 1970 through 2006. \nAs a flutist\, he has given flute-piano recitals with his wife\, Dolly Eugenio Kessner\, in France\, Italy\, Holland\, Germany\, El Salvador\, England\, Portugal\, Norway\, and the Czech Republic\, and has performed in numerous chamber music concerts. He has appeared as a guest conductor of the Los Angeles Philharmonic New Music Group\, the Black Sea Philharmonic of Romania\, the Moorpark Symphony Orchestra\, and more recently the Trondheim Sinfonietta\, among others. He has been an Upbeat Live lecturer for the Los Angeles Philharmonic since 1983. \nIn the spring semester of 2006 he joined the faculty of the University of Hawaii on a one-semester appointment. In the fall of 2006 he accepted a similar position at the Thornton School of Music of the University of Southern California. DESCRIPTION:Guest Artist Recital – Johan Botes\, piano\nTuesday November 25th 2025 at 7:30 pm \nShigemi Matsumoto Recital Hall\, $10 – $22 \n  \n\nJohan Botes is known for his extraordinary versatility as a soloist\, collaborative musician\, and teacher; a career which has brought him recognition in concerts around the world.A native of South Africa\, Botes showed musical promise from an early age. Among many notable awards in his native country\, he was the 2007 First Prize Winner of the Third UNISA/Vodacom National Piano Competition playing Rachmaninoff’s technically demanding Third Piano Concerto to a standing ovation; a performance for which he also won the Desmond Willson Memorial Prize for best concerto in the final round.In 2008\, Botes moved to Europe and continued his studies in London with British pianist Martin Roscoe at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama. That year also resulted in master classes with Imogen Cooper\, Alexander Rudin\, Paul Lewis\, Leslie Howard\, Leon Fleisher and Richard Goode as well as regular coaching classes with pianist Graham Johnson and soprano Margaret Humpfrey-Clark.As a soloist\, Botes has performed in venues worldwide. He has appeared as soloist with the Juneau Symphony in Alaska\, Bainbridge Symphony and Auburn Symphony in Seattle\, the Chamber Orchestra of South Africa\, Pro Musica Orchestra in Johannesburg\, the KwaZulu-Natal Philharmonic Orchestra in Durban\, the University of Pretoria Symphony Orchestra as well as the Texas Chamber Orchestra at UT Austin. He has also performed in Prague with the Hadrec Kralove Orchestra in 2003 and in 2005 he toured to Bulgaria where he played with the Varna Philharmonic Orchestra in Varna.In 2010\, Botes won the Sidney M. Wright Presidential Scholarship Competition in Piano Accompaniment and in the same year began collaborative Piano Trio work with cellist Francesco Mastromatteo. Blake Cooper\, tuba\nSaturday October 26th\, 2025 at 3:00 pm Shigemi Matsumoto Recital Hall\, Free Admission \nDr. P Blake Cooper will be presenting a faculty recital for CSUN OcTubaFest 2025.  Joining Dr. Cooper for will this performance: Katie Eames on Piano and CSUN’s own Dillon MacIntyre on Trombone.\nDr. Cooper is an accomplished LA recording artist for Film\, TV\, video games and record dates. He serves as Principal Tuba with the New West Symphony and is a regular substitute musician with orchestras such as the LA Phil\, LA Opera\, San Diego Symphony\, and many more. This years OcTubaFest faculty recital will feature works by Szentpali\, Redden\, Koetsier\, Meador\, Nickens and Nishimura.\n\nThis event will be followed by a Tuba Student Studio Recital\, Monday Oct 27th at 7:30 PM\, also in Shigemi Matsumoto Recital Hall.\nSuggested Parking via Kiosks in Lot B1 \nThis is event is FREE. \nThis is event is not live streamed.

DESCRIPTION:Faculty Artist\, Jason Stoll\, piano\nwith Guest Artist\, Micah Wright\, clarinet\nSaturday October 18th\, 7:30 PM\, Shigemi Matsumoto Recital Hall \n  \nPianist Jason Stoll and clarinetist/pianist Dr. Micah Wright join forces for a dynamic and genre-spanning recital featuring works by Claude Debussy\, Arturo Márquez\, York Bowen\, Steve Harlos\, and George Gershwin. Known for their versatility and engaging performances\, Stoll and Wright bring together their extensive solo\, chamber\, and collaborative experience—ranging from major international stages to innovative local programs. Both active educators and acclaimed performers\, they offer a unique musical experience that bridges classical elegance with contemporary flair. \n  \nBIOGRAPHIES \nDr. Micah Wright is a versatile artist\, performer\, and educator based in Southern California. Dr. Wright has received several national and international musical awards and given solo\, chamber\, and orchestral performances throughout the United States. He is the winner of the 2016 Frances Walton Competition\, 2nd prize winner in the 2017 Backun International Clarinet Competition\, and a finalist in the International Clarinet Association’s Young Artist Competition\, Chamber Music Northwest International Young Artist Competition\, and William C. Byrd International Young Artist Competition. Known for his unique programming\, Dr. Wright frequently performs his own arrangements\, has premiered many contemporary works\, is comfortable performing in a wide variety of genres and instruments\, and is an active member of several active chamber ensembles. In 2018 and 2023\, he was featured as a soloist by the Beverly Hills National Auditions\, performing on both clarinet and piano. Dr. Wright maintains a diverse teaching schedule and is on faculty at California Lutheran University\, Citrus College\, Pierce College\, Pasadena Conservatory\, Kadima Conservatory\, and California State Summer School for the Arts. He graduated with academic honors from USC Thornton (D.M.A.\, 2015)\, Rice University’s Shepherd School (M.M. 2012)\, and Drake University (B.M. 2009) where he studied clarinet with Michele Zukovsky\, Yehuda Gilad\, Richie Hawley\, Dr. Michael Webster\, and Clarence Padilla \nSouthern Californian pianist\, Jason Stoll\, enjoys a multifaceted career as concerto soloist\, recitalist\, chamber musician\, educator\, and collaborative artist. Past concert highlights include giving the U.S. premiere of Benjamin Britten’s Rondo Concertante for piano and strings\, a number of solo recitals and chamber music throughout his native California\, nationally\, and internationally\, and numerous orchestral appearances incuding the Santa Monica Symphony\, North Charleston Pops\, Miami Music Festival Orchestra\, and the Midland-Odessa Symphony  just to name a few. \nMr. Stoll holds degrees from California State University\, Northridge\, the Juilliard School\, and the Glenn Gould School of the Royal Conservatory of Music in Toronto. Additionally\, Mr. Stoll has attended several prestigious summer music festivals including the Miami Music Festival\, Pianofest in the Hamptons\, Aspen Music Festival\, and the Adamant Music School. \nCurrently\, Mr. Stoll is a piano instructor and lecturer at California State University\, Northridge\, Los Angeles Pierce College\, and is also a freelance pianist\, masterclass presenter and adjudicator throughout the Los Angeles area. \nParking via Kiosks in Lot B1 \nTICKETS: $10 to $22
