SUMMARY:Latin Jewish Film Festival
DESCRIPTION:An Evening with Ruth Behar: Adio Kerida Screening\, Q&A and Book Signing \nThe 2026 Latin Jewish Film Festival opens with one of the most beloved works in Latin-Jewish cinema. \nAdio Kerida (Goodbye Dear Love) is a deeply personal documentary by acclaimed filmmaker\, anthropologist\, and MacArthur Fellow Ruth Behar — a search for identity and history among Sephardic Jews with roots in Cuba. Intimate interviews with Sephardic Jews in Cuba and Cuban Miami\, woven together with family stories and probing footage of dilapidated Jewish cemeteries and new Judaic rituals in Cuba\, create a filmic memoir that offers a uniquely poetic and humanistic anthropological vision. \nDate: April 23 \nTime: 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. \nLocation: CSUN – Armer Theater \nCost:  \n$10 CSUN Alumni tickets (use code CSUNALUMNI) \n$18 – Individual tickets \nFollowing the screening\, Ruth Behar will join us in person for a moderated Q&A — a rare opportunity to hear directly from the filmmaker about the making of this intimate and celebrated work\, and what it means to hold two homelands in your heart. \nThe evening concludes with a book signing of Behar’s Across So Many Seas\, her luminous memoir tracing a Sephardic Jewish family’s journey from the Ottoman Empire to Cuba to the United States — a story of belonging\, loss\, and identity across centuries. (Books available for purchase for $10) \nPurchase Your Tickets Here!\nJewtina y Co.’s Latin-Jewish Film Festival takes place across Los Angeles\, celebrating Latin-Jewish identity through cinema. Three carefully curated films will be screened over two months\, bringing together Los Angeles’ Jewish community for an exploration of multicultural Jewish identities\, Latin American culture\, and meaningful cross-cultural dialogue. \nHosted at venues throughout the city\, the festival highlights diverse Jewish narratives from Latin America\, fostering cultural understanding and community connection. It creates essential spaces for Latin-Jewish young adults and community members to see their experiences authentically reflected on screen — while building bridges across Los Angeles’ varied Jewish communities.

SUMMARY:Heightened Scrutiny Film Screening
DESCRIPTION:Queer Studies Presents a screening of Sam Feder’s 2025 documentary Heightened Scrutiny and a talkback with Sam led by Sid Hansen and Guillermo Rodriguez in the Armer Theater in Manzanita Hall on March 26th from 4-6:30pm. Mocktails and appetizers will be served in the breezeway outside of Manzanita Hall during the event. \nHeightened Scrutiny follows lawyer Chase Strangio as he prepares to argue against the Tennessee ban on gender affirming health care for trans youth at the Supreme Court in December 2024. It offers a close look at how the media distorts narratives about gender affirming health care for trans people\, and the direct effect that has on legal rulings about trans kids.

SUMMARY:In Search of Fellini – a coming-of-age journey\, a quest for self-fulfillment\, and a cultural wild ride into the world of Master FeFe
DESCRIPTION:A film screening and Q&A with writer/producer and iconic voice actor Nancy Cartwright. In Search of Fellini is the brainchild of Nancy Cartwright. The film is based on Nancy’s personal journey through Italy looking for the famed director Federico Fellini\, a hunt for the creator of La dolce vita. While idealized\, it is a memoir that takes us on a magical tour of Italy\, its language\, culture\, monuments\, people\, stereotypes\, the good\, the bad\, and the ugly\, in short of any adventure propelled by dreams. The film is a formative road trip for Lucy the twenty something\, very innocent\, starry-eyed protagonist.
