DESCRIPTION:As part of Matador’s Day of Service\nSaturday\, February 7 | 8:00 a.m.–1:00 p.m. \nJoin the CSUN Institute for Sustainability and Food Forward for a morning of service\, community\, and hands-on impact at one of CSUN’s most cherished landmarks—the Orange Grove (located between Zelzah & Lindley\, east of The Soraya). \nThis year\, the Orange Grove Cleanup is proud to be one of the featured service projects during Matador’s Day of Service\, a campus-wide day dedicated to giving back. Planted in the 1940s\, the five-acre grove along Nordhoff Street is home to more than 400 Valencia orange trees and stands as one of the last remaining orange groves from the San Fernando Valley’s agricultural past. \nVolunteers will help care for and maintain the grove by pruning and supporting the health of the trees\, ensuring strong future harvests. The fruit grown here serves a bigger purpose—helping stock the CSUN Food Pantry and supporting food pantries across Los Angeles County with fresh\, nutritious oranges. \nSign Up Here! SUMMARY:Climate Change Impacts on Power Infrastructure
DESCRIPTION:Event Description\n\nRSVP for this Event \n\nHow resilient is our power infrastructure in the face of a changing climate? Across North America\, extreme weather events\, heatwaves\, and wildfires are increasingly stressing electrical grids\, raising urgent questions about how to adapt energy systems for the future. \nJoin us for a special talk by Dr. Pierre-Olivier Pineau\, Professor in the Department of Decision Sciences at HEC Montréal and Chair in Energy Sector Management. Dr. Pineau will present findings from a major research project funded by the Fonds de recherche du Québec (FRQ)\, which examines the economic and operational impacts of climate change on energy infrastructure—including transmission and distribution networks\, transformers\, and other critical assets. He will share his team’s modelling approach\, preliminary results\, and the broader implications for managing and adapting power systems. \nWith wildfires in California and beyond already exposing vulnerabilities in existing grids\, this research offers timely insights for both local and global energy resilience. \nDate: October 29\, 2025\nTime: 11:30AM – 1:00PM\nLocation: Whitsett Room | Sierra Hall\, Room 451 \nLight refreshments will be served. \nAbout the Speaker\nDr. Pineau (PhD\, HEC Montréal\, 2000) is an internationally recognized expert in energy policy and management\, with a particular focus on electricity sector reforms and sustainability. He has published extensively on energy systems and sustainable development\, contributes regularly to public policy debates\, and is the author of numerous government reports. His latest book\, The Energy Balance (in French)\, was released in February 2023.
