Sociology Welcomes New Faculty, Jessennya Hernandez, P.h.D.

Jessennya is a queer working class
Xicana who was born and raised in the
Inland Empire. She earned her
bachelor’s degree at Cal Poly Pomona
almost a decade ago, and is very
excited to be back at an HSI (Hispanic
Serving Institution) that is student and
teaching centered! Along with teaching
and research, she also organizes with
an abolitionist mutual aid collective.
Her specialty areas include artivism,
race and racialization, gender and
sexuality, urban sociology, liberatory
practice and social justice, Latinx
studies, transnational and decolonial
feminism, Black feminist thought and
women of color feminisms, queer
theory and politics.

Fun Fact: She is learning to play the drums,
loves gardening, and enjoys
hearing and sharing new music.
