DESCRIPTION:TEMPO Ensemble\nSunday September 27th\, 2026 at 7:30 pm Shigemi Matsumoto Recital Hall\, $10 – $22 \nJoin TEMPO (The Epicenter Music Performance Organization) for a wonderful concert filled with new music. This concert features a fantastic piece for violin and clarinet by Minnesota composer\, Libby Larsen titled “A Tarantella for Our Times” performed by CSUN’s own faculty members\, Lorenz Gamma and Julia Heinen. In addition\, there are winning compositions by TEMPO’s annual Call for Scores. Featured will be Dayton Hare — ebb\, flow; Anthony Iannaccone — White Water; Richard Derby — Pick a Low Note; Kolten Heeren — Scherzo; Oswald Huỳnh — Memory revises me; Luca Pasquini — Contour Intervals; and Jessica Lee — What Flickered Between the Reveries?   Please join us for an evening of celebrating new music! \nTEMPO (The Epicenter Music Performance Organization)\, dedicated to the pursuit\, performance\, and perseverance of contemporary music\, was formed in 2008 at California State University\, Northridge by Daniel Kessner and Julia Heinen. This ground-breaking ensemble seeks to promote and celebrate the rich diversity of our world through the performance of contemporary musical stories. \nIn 2026-2027 TEMPO celebrates its 18th season of bringing contemporary music to the world.  In addition to programming established contemporary works\,  it also hosts an annual “Call for Scores\,” selecting several works to feature each season.\n\nOur 18th season will feature in Spring 2027\, the 100th birthday celebration of CSUN Professor Emeritus of Composition\, Frank Campo. In addition to performing several of Frank’s works\, we also will be joined by guest artist violinist\, Darius Campo\, Frank’s son. We hope you’ll come and join us to celebrate him and his music.\n\nIn Spring 2019\, TEMPO was honored to receive 1st prize at the Doug Davis Performance Grant for their performance of Fred Lerdahl’s “Time After Time.” In addition\, Doug Davis has sponsored a commission for a new work by composer David Werfelmann that was premiered in February 2023.\n\nThe ensemble of flute\, clarinet\, violin\, viola\, cello\, and piano consists of faculty\, alumni\, and friends\,  all of whom share a passion for performing works from the 20th and 21st centuries.\nEnsemble Members \n\nLarry Kaplin\, flute\nDaniel Kessner\, bass flute\nJulia Heinen\, clarinet\nLorenz Gamma\, violin\, viola\nNancy Roth\, violin\, viola\nErika Duke-Kirkpatrick\, cello\nFrançoise Régnat\, piano\nDaniel Kessner\, conductor\n\nTICKETS: $10 to $22 (plus $2 fee per ticket) \nCan’t attend in Person?
