SUMMARY:Open Access 2025: Share your Knowledge\, Retain your Rights - Start an OA Journal
DESCRIPTION:Who owns our knowledge? This year’s International Open Access Week invites us to reflect on how scholarship is created\, shared\, and controlled. At California State University\, Northridge\, faculty and students are taking an active role in shaping the future of scholarly publishing by launching their own Open Access journals. \nJoin us for a morning of conversation and presentations exploring how you can share your knowledge while retaining your rights. Our program will feature speakers from CSUN and the CSU who are leading journal publishing initiatives. We’ll highlight Open Journal Systems (OJS)\, the systemwide platform\, while also sharing other publishing models and approaches. Learn about the opportunities and challenges of starting a journal\, from protecting faculty rights and navigating platforms to considering how AI intersects with academic publishing. \nSpeakers will include CSUN faculty editors and representatives from the CSU system who will share their experiences with OJS\, campus presses\, and emerging models of Open Access publishing. Whether you are interested in starting a journal\, contributing as an editor\, or simply learning more about how Open Access empowers scholarship\, this event offers valuable insights and practical guidance. \nCoffee and light refreshments will be provided. All are welcome—students\, faculty\, staff\, and anyone interested in Open Access publishing. \nHybrid event: in the University Library Jack & Florence Ferman Presentation Room and on Zoom \nPlease Register on Event Page

SUMMARY:EOP Free Speech Event 2025
DESCRIPTION:EOP Free Speech EventJoin us for EOP’s annual Free Speech Event on Wednesday\, October 22\, from 12:00–1:00 PM at Matador Square! \nThis celebration honors our First Amendment right to freedom of speech\, bringing the campus community together to share ideas\, listen\, and connect. Without this essential right to free speech and assembly\, the student activists of the 1960s would not have been able to raise their voices and advocate for access to higher education. The Educational Opportunity Program (EOP) was born out of the Civil Rights Movement and the fight for access. This event continues to honor that legacy. \nWe invite you to sign up for a 5-minute slot to express yourself through speech\, poetry\, music\, or storytelling. Everyone is welcome\, and every voice matters! \nSign up here: https://csun.sjc1.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_42h4AbutPCtrGe2
