SUMMARY:Africana Studies Week 2025
DESCRIPTION:56th Anniversary: Africana Studies Week 2025\nRooted and Rising: Revitalizing Africana Studies\nFifty-six years strong\, Africana Studies remains apologetically grounded in truth and resilient in action. Our theme\, “Rooted and Rising: Revitalizing Africana Studies\,” declares our unwavering commitment to preserving our history and energizing our future. “Rooted” embodies our relentless connection to legacies of strength\, resistance\, and brilliance. We honor trailblazers who fearlessly established this field\, confronting injustice and asserting cultural pride. Anchored by their courage\, we refuse to compromise\, boldly reclaiming our narratives. “Rising” compels us toward renewal\, innovation\, and fearless imagination. Through revitalizing Africana Studies\, we disrupt stagnation\, breathe new life into scholarship\, and forge paths that inspire impactful community action and intellectual courage. This 56th anniversary isn’t merely a reflection; it’s a declaration. Rooted in authenticity and rising toward visionary possibility\, we fiercely recommit to a discipline that’s revolutionary\, vibrant\, and unapologetically ours—revitalized and ready to shape futures defined by liberation and power. \n\n\n\nEvent\nDate\nTime\nLocation\n\n\nPlaque Dedication\nOctober 31\, 2025\n11:30AM to 2:15PM\nBetween Sierra Hall and Jerome Richfield\n\n\nBikeFest\nNovember 2\, 2025\n10AM to 2PM\nSoraya Parking Lot Off Nordhoff Street\n\n\nAlumni Panel Discussion\nNovember 3\, 2025\n1:00PM to 2:15PM\nFlintridge Room (USU)\n\n\nFaculty Feature Hour\nNovember 4\, 2025\n12:00PM to 1:00PM\nGrand Salon (USU)\n\n\nKeynote Speaker\nNovember 4\, 2025\n1:00PM to 2:15PM\nGrand Salon (USU)\n\n\n\n  \n \nAfricana Studies Week 2025: 4th Annual Plaque Dedication \n \nAfricana Studies Week 2025: Alumni Panel Discussion \n \nAFRS Week Event: Keynote Address and Faculty Feature Hour

SUMMARY:CSUN SHED Gallery Remnants
DESCRIPTION:Visit this week’s student group exhibit “Remnants” \nMonday\, Oct. 27 – Friday\, Nov. 1 in the SHED Gallery.\nThe reception is on Thursday\, Oct. 30\, at 5pm in the SHED Gallery. \nThis show is curated by Leon Cho. The theme was inspired by the Halloween season\, and thinking about the color black as a catalyst for creating a void of darkness that instills fear and stillness. The show is curated around the idea of objects and remnants/traces of ourselves in the work we create that can be left behind or used as new.

SUMMARY:Affect and Space Making in Afro-Latina Poetics
DESCRIPTION:This webinar explores how Afro-Latina writers challenge colonial ideas of space through storytelling. Focusing on Daughters of the Stone (2009) by Afro-Puerto Rican author Dahlma Llanos-Figueroa\, the talk examines how Black Puerto Rican women use literature to preserve emotional and spatial knowledge rooted in resistance\, community\, and spirituality. It highlights how Afro-Latina poetics reshape Latinx and Black geographies by centering Blackness and rejecting dominant narratives like mestizaje.
