SUMMARY:ChamberMusic@CSUN Andrew McIntosh and Friends: Schumann\, Schubert\, and Mendelssohn
DESCRIPTION:ChamberMusic@CSUN\nAndrew McIntosh and Friends\n“Schumann\, Schubert\, and Mendelssohn”\nSaturday October 31\, 2026 at 3:00 pm \nShigemi Matsumoto Recital Hall in Cypress Hall\, $10 – $22 \n \n\n\nPROGRAM\n\nR. Schumann – Phantasiestücke\, Op. 88\nSchubert – Nocturne in Eb Major\, D. 897\nMendelssohn – Piano Trio No. 1 in D minor\, Op. 49\n\n\n\nAndrew McIntosh\, Eva Lymenstull\, and Steven Vanhauwaert present a program of fantastical and dreamy early Romantic-era piano trios on period instruments\, with an original 1825 Broadwood fortepiano. The Broadwood has a uniquely warm sound and character\, perfectly matched to this repertoire\, and is similar to one that was owned and cherished by Beethoven. \nThis is McIntosh’s (violin/viola faculty at CalArts and concertmaster of Tesserae) second appearance on the CSUN Chamber Series\, after performing the complete Rosary Sonatas of Biber on the series two years ago\, this time joined by Vanhauwaert (piano faculty at University of Utah)\, with whom he released the first period instrument recording of the violin sonatas of Joseph Boulogne\, and Lymenstull (cellist with Philharmonia Baroque Orchestra and baroque cello faculty at University of Michigan). This concert marks the second time they are coming together to play piano trios with a romantic-era piano and gut strings\, bringing the repertoire to life in a way that is rarely heard in the 21st century.\n\n\n2026-10-31 PROGRAM Andrew McIntosh Trio\nLearn More about ANDREW McINTOSH \nChamberMusic@CSUN is proudly sponsored by the Colburn Foundation and the CSUN Foundation. \nParking via Kiosks in Lot B1 \nTICKETS: $10 CSUN students to $22 general (plus a $2 fee)

SUMMARY:Guest Artist Recital: Hui Wu\, piano
DESCRIPTION:Guest Artist: Hui Wu\, piano\nFriday October 30th 2026\, 7:30 PM\, Shigemi Matsumoto Recital Hall \n \n  \nProgram Notes \nThis program juxtaposes two cornerstones of the étude repertoire: the 12 Études from Frédéric Chopin’s Op. 25 and the 10 Études of Philip Glass (Book I). By pairing these cycles\, the recital explores the “étude” as both a technical laboratory and a high-art form\, tracing a line from Chopin’s 19th-century chromaticism to Glass’s 21st-century minimalism — the meditative austerity of Glass set against the multi-faceted emotional world of Chopin. \nDr. Hui Wu\, praised by The New York Times for her “sparkling” artistry\, is a world-class classical pianist whose performances shatter expectations\, transforming each concert into an immersive\, multidimensional journey that reimagines timeless classical music for the present moment. \nhttps://www.huiwupianist.com/ \n2026-10-30 PROGRAM GAR WUI HU\nParking via Kiosks in Lot B1 \nOn Instagram\, follow @csunpc for more Piano Events! \nTICKETS: $10 to $22 (plus a $2 fee per ticket)

SUMMARY:CSUN Opera: "The Juniper Tree" by Philip Glass
DESCRIPTION:CSUN OPERA\n“The Juniper Tree” by Philip Glass\nShigemi Matsumoto Recital Hall\, Cypress Hall\, CSUN \nFOUR PERFORMANCES \nThursday – Friday – Saturday\, April 16-18 at 7:30 PM\, and Sunday April 19th at 2:30 PM \nConductor / Music Director: Mercedes Juan Musotto\nStage Director: Maurice Godin\nOpera Area Director: Hugo Vera\nDark\, mesmerizing\, and emotionally powerful\, The Juniper Tree is the haunting operatic retelling of the Brothers Grimm fairy tale by Philip Glass and Robert Moran— a story of jealousy\, innocence\, and transformation. Combining Glass’s minimalism language with Moran’s tonal\, dramatically driven style\, the opera weaves hypnotic rhythms and luminous vocal lines into a deeply human narrative that is at once unsettling and strangely beautiful. \nThis intimate chamber opera draws the audience inside a mythic world where cruelty and compassion collide\, and where loss ultimately gives way to transcendence. With its stripped-down instrumentation and poetic storytelling\, The Juniper Tree offers a gripping theatrical experience that feels both ancient and startlingly modern. \nPresented in the intimate acoustics of Shigemi Matsumoto Recital Hall\, this production invites audiences into a powerful and unforgettable journey through one of Philip Glass’s most haunting works. \nSuggested Parking via Kiosks in Lot B1 \nTICKETS: $10 to $22 \nTHE JUNIPER TREE – Program PDF

SUMMARY:CSUN Opera: "The Juniper Tree\," by Philip Glass
DESCRIPTION:CSUN OPERA\n“The Juniper Tree” by Philip Glass\nShigemi Matsumoto Recital Hall \nThursday – Friday – Saturday\, April 16-18 at 7:30 PM\, and Sunday April 19th at 2:30 PM \nConductor / Music Director: Mercedes Juan Musotto\nStage Director: Maurice Godin\nOpera Area Director: Hugo Vera\nDark\, mesmerizing\, and emotionally powerful\, The Juniper Tree is the haunting operatic retelling of the Brothers Grimm fairy tale by Philip Glass and Robert Moran— a story of jealousy\, innocence\, and transformation.
