Our students in the dance program work closely with alumni\, faculty\, and invited professionals to put on an amazing show that you do not want to miss! The annual dance concert also provides rich opportunities to integrate the art and science of human movement\, in fact\, psychological data will be gathered during the performances. \nColaboratoria this year will take place on Wednesday\, November 18th at 7:30 pm and Thursday\, November 19th at 2 pm and 7:30 pm in the Plaza Del Sol Performance Hall (located on the east side of the campus off Zelzah Street by the Student Union). He attended the Tchaikovsky Conservatory in Moscow – the most prestigious music institution in Russia – where his teachers included renowned musicians Lev Vlasenko\, Mikhail Pletniev (piano) and Leonid Royzman (organ). \nMr. Gliadkovsky earned both his Master’s and Doctor of Musical Arts degrees at the University of Southern California with Professors Daniel Pollack (piano)\, Cherry Rhodes (organ)\, and William Schaefer (conducting). Mr. Gliadkovsky is an orchestra and choral conductor\, as well. He composes for piano and organ and has premiered his works in Russia and in the USA. He also performs in a duo piano team with his wife Anna Gliadkovskaya and his sister\, Ekaterina. \nCurrently\, Mr. Gliadkovsky combines his busy concert schedule with teaching at the University of Southern California and Santa Monica College\, where he is on the piano faculty. DESCRIPTION:Faculty Artist\, Jason Stoll\, piano\nwith Guest Artist\, Micah Wright\, clarinet\nSaturday February 6th\, 2027 at 4:00 PM\, Shigemi Matsumoto Recital Hall \n  \nProgram TBA \n  \nBIOGRAPHIES \nDr. Micah Wright is a versatile artist\, performer\, and educator based in Southern California. Dr. Wright has received several national and international musical awards and given solo\, chamber\, and orchestral performances throughout the United States. He is the winner of the 2016 Frances Walton Competition\, 2nd prize winner in the 2017 Backun International Clarinet Competition\, and a finalist in the International Clarinet Association’s Young Artist Competition\, Chamber Music Northwest International Young Artist Competition\, and William C. Byrd International Young Artist Competition. Known for his unique programming\, Dr. Wright frequently performs his own arrangements\, has premiered many contemporary works\, is comfortable performing in a wide variety of genres and instruments\, and is an active member of several active chamber ensembles. In 2018 and 2023\, he was featured as a soloist by the Beverly Hills National Auditions\, performing on both clarinet and piano. Dr. Wright maintains a diverse teaching schedule and is on faculty at California Lutheran University\, Citrus College\, Pierce College\, Pasadena Conservatory\, Kadima Conservatory\, and California State Summer School for the Arts. He graduated with academic honors from USC Thornton (D.M.A.\, 2015)\, Rice University’s Shepherd School (M.M. 2012)\, and Drake University (B.M. 2009) where he studied clarinet with Michele Zukovsky\, Yehuda Gilad\, Richie Hawley\, Dr. Michael Webster\, and Clarence Padilla \nSouthern Californian pianist\, Jason Stoll\, enjoys a multifaceted career as concerto soloist\, recitalist\, chamber musician\, educator\, and collaborative artist. Past concert highlights include giving the U.S. premiere of Benjamin Britten’s Rondo Concertante for piano and strings\, a number of solo recitals and chamber music throughout his native California\, nationally\, and internationally\, and numerous orchestral appearances incuding the Santa Monica Symphony\, North Charleston Pops\, Miami Music Festival Orchestra\, and the Midland-Odessa Symphony  just to name a few. \nMr. Stoll holds degrees from California State University\, Northridge\, the Juilliard School\, and the Glenn Gould School of the Royal Conservatory of Music in Toronto. DESCRIPTION:Guest Artist\, Égide Duo\nJoshua and Stephanie Gardner\, clarinet\nThursday February 26th 2027\, at 7:30 PM\, Shigemi Matsumoto Recital Hall \n  \n \nProgram TBA \nAs agents of new repertoire\, Égide Duo’s mission is to collaborate with composers to create and present music that addresses social change\, including issues involving the environment/climate\, animal and human rights\, and equality. The duo aims to provide clear and pointed musical commentary on issues that affect our society today and tomorrow in an effort to draw attention to and encourage active public engagement on such issues. Joshua and Stefanie Gardner have commissioned works by Eric Mandat\, Kurt Mehlenbacher\, Jon Russell\, John Steinmetz\, Joel Love\, and others dedicated to effecting social change through music. \nThe duo has been invited to perform at conferences for numerous organizations\, including the International Clarinet Association and the College Music Society. Their recent performance at ClarinetFest 2019 was described as “powerful” with a “vibrant color palette and captivating quality” by the conference review team. They have appeared as guest artists throughout the US and in France. \nIn addition to performing\, Joshua and Stefanie hold teaching positions in higher education. Joshua teaches at Arizona State University and Stefanie teaches at Glendale Community College (AZ). DESCRIPTION:Guest Artist Recital\nAlyn Mearns\, classical guitar\nFriday\, March 5th\, 2027\, 7:30 PM\, Shigemi Matsumoto Recital Hall in Cypress Hall \n \nProgram to be Announced \nIrish guitarist-composer Alan Mearns is internationally recognized for his musical imagination\, technical virtuosity\, and expressive depth. Born in Belfast\, Northern Ireland\, Mearns studied in the United States with Douglas James and renowned guitarist and scholar Stanley Yates. His acclaimed recording J.S. Bach\, Sei Solo reached No. 8 on the Billboard Classical Music Charts and earned praise for its bold and original approach to Bach. Soundboard Magazine described his performance of the Bach Chaconne at the Guitar Foundation of America Convention as “amongst the greatest performances of the work I’ve ever heard.” \nAs a performer\, arranger\, and composer\, Mearns continues to expand the expressive possibilities of the classical guitar\, combining tradition with a distinctly individual voice. His recent works include Oración and Lorca\, the latter featured on his newly released album inspired by Spanish poet Federico García Lorca. Mearns has presented masterclasses throughout the United States and United Kingdom\, including at Yale University\, Oberlin Conservatory\, the Dublin Conservatoire of Music\, and the University of North Texas.
