Emerging in the 19th century\, it became especially popular in Europe\, with notable contributions from French\, Austrian\, and British composers. Operetta influenced early musical theater and remained popular into the early 20th century before giving way to modern musicals. Today\, many of these works are still performed for their charm\, humor\, and enduring melodies.
