Teaching in the Age of AI: Designing Learning That Builds Critical Thinking – Part I

April 10 at 10:00 am to 11:00 am

Virtual Event Virtual Event
a CSUN professor teaching AI in class.

Hosted by Dr. Deniz Marti

Description: Part I introduces the pedagogical foundations for teaching in an AI-rich learning environment. Participants will explore how students are currently using AI tools and why attempts to ban AI often fail. The session will also examine the concept of cognitive erosion and discuss how poorly designed assignments can unintentionally encourage
students to outsource thinking.

Participants will learn practical principles for AI-integrated pedagogy, including how to design assignments that require reasoning, critique, and reflection rather than simply asking students to produce outputs.

What you’ll leave this workshop with:
• Principles of AI-integrated pedagogy
• Practical ways to integrate AI into active learning
• Ideas for using AI to support critical thinking and metacognition
