Late Registration Begins, Fall 2026

August 24

Fall Term icon, Student Academic Calendar

Late Registration and Schedule Adjustment begin Monday, Aug. 24, 2026. It’s called “late” because classes have started, but it’s perfectly fine to adjust your schedule as needed using online, self-service registration.

You may add, drop and swap classes, and change the basis of grading online, but what you can do depends on which week of classes we’re in.

1st Week of Classes

Starting with the first week of classes, Aug. 24 through 30, 2026:

  • Wait-listing is available through Sunday, Aug. 30, 11:59 p.m.
  • No permission is required to add classes except for restricted classes, which always require permission.
  • The maximum load is 18 units for undergraduates and 16 units for graduate students. Check unit load exceptions.
  • Repeating courses is permitted (started with your enrollment appointment).
  • Prorated refunds begin. Find refund information.

2nd to 4th Week of Classes

Starting with the second through the fourth week of classes, Aug. 31 through Sept. 20:

  • Wait-listing is no longer available.
  • Permission numbers are required to add ALL classes through Nov. 13.
  • The last day to qualify for a partial refund due to a drop in academic load below 6.1 units is Friday, Sept. 11.
  • The last day for graduate students to drop classes online is Friday, Sept. 11.
  • The last day for undergraduates to drop or change grading basis using self-service registration is Sunday, Sept. 20.

To drop or swap classes or change grading basis after the deadlines above requires formal approval. Find procedures and forms at Late Schedule Changes.

Please make every effort to finalize your schedule by Sept. 20, the end of the fourth week, when recorded enrollments are considered official.

Dropping After the Deadlines

Formal approval is required to drop (withdraw from) classes as follows:

  • Graduate students: After the third week, formal approval is required to drop one or more classes. Visit Graduate Student Forms and select “Late Change in Academic Schedule.”
  • Undergraduate students: After the fourth week, formal approval is required to drop classes or change the grading basis. Visit Late Schedule Changes.
