Update: The California legislature recently changed the name of this state holiday to Farmworkers Day in honor of the laborers who harvest the abundant fresh fruits and vegetables we are so fortunate to have in California, as well as workers in the dairy industry and other agriculture sectors. César Chávez Day in California and several other states honors the founder of the United Farm Workers.

Alongside César Chávez, Filipino farm workers played an important leadership role in the movement. Together they ultimately improved working conditions for all farm workers.

  • Classes are not in session on Tuesday, March 31, 2026.
  • Campus business offices are closed.*
  • Classes will meet on March 30 and then resume April 1.**
