College of Humanities brown bag lecture presents: “Freedom in Chinese Philosophy”
With Dr. Weimin Sun, Professor of Philosophy and former director of China Institute at CSUN
Date: Wednesday, April 22nd, 2026
Time: 2:30pm-3:30pm
Location: JR 319
Dr. Sun will talk about conceptions of freedom in Chinese philosophy, especially in Confucianism, Daoism, and Buddhism. He argues that the key to understand Chinese freedom is the notion of control (self-control in particular), which can be very helpful to understand contemporary debates on freedom in Western philosophy.
