Don’t Trash Your Jack-O’-Lantern—Compost It!
After Halloween, more than a billion pounds of pumpkins are tossed into landfills each year, where they break down and release methane, a potent greenhouse gas that contributes to climate change. Instead of letting your leftover pumpkins go to waste, give them a second life!
The CSUN Sustainable Food G.A.R.D.E.N., located behind the baseball and softball fields, is collecting expired pumpkins to turn them into nutrient-rich compost that supports campus-grown produce and sustainable gardening practices.
So before your pumpkin turns to mush, drop it off and help reduce waste while nourishing the soil that sustains us all. Together, we can make Halloween greener—one pumpkin at a time!
